Lovely piece! My grandfather always checked his shoes, said it was a habit from when he was stationed in Egypt and had to check for scorpions. All mine ever had were cat toys luckily.

Loved this :-) My worst nightmare! I don’t think it’s silly; it’s delightful and dark at the same time.

I usually remember to check my shoes, especially if I haven’t worn them in a while. And I either keep my work gloves in a sealed container or squish the fingers before putting them on. I’m definitely paranoid about spiders. We have a few poisonous ones around here, but even the regular ones give nasty bites!

I also check straws, not just for spiders but bugs generally after unknowingly drinking an earwig... Beware!

Creepy poetry for a sleepy reader...

I do not like spiders at all.

Reminded me of a friend who put her cowboy boots on without checking inside them (even in the country) and felt what she thought was a sock in one. She reached in and pulled out a mouse... I wonder if many of us have similar shoe stories. 👢
