I’ve embraced the term “community” when imagining the future of The Storyletter Substack and where we’re heading. There’s no end goal in mind, since it’s more about the daily love of the craft and those who engage in it. I seek to establish a place where people can be themselves, and publish and read together in a supportive environment. Communities can be a lot of things, but I’m curious what you think a community is or should be? What other communities do you enjoy being a part of? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
I do think communities can be crafted around an idea 💡, and when it’s realized it’s fantastic and easy to form, but people are drawn to crowds. I myself, tend to vier to the road less traveled for some strange reason. I like creativity and new ideas, and I’m finding that the digital world allows you to VOICE more and hide somewhat. I have a lot of ideas but are afraid to express them for fear of rejection (by a community ) thinking they are silly or out of line. For example, I made some suggestions to my association yesterday via email instead of at a meeting because I didn’t want to get ridiculed by many of the members. I really like this platform because I feel like I’m part of your community and it’s a nice place to express some of my thoughts and feelings making me feel welcomed with less fear of ridicule.
i like your definition of community, and it's pretty much in line with what i'd like to find and foster here at Substack. i like the idea of being able to engage with people who share similar interests (in this case writing), but different perspectives, not just because they're cool people :-) but because they help open my eyes to things i otherwise might not be exposed to in my little world.
Well, to me community has many descriptions and can be a compelling force in someone’s life. Without it some may feel lost. I myself like community, whether it’s a neighborhood or group of people sharing, caring and giving. Just any old group claiming to be community is not genuine, because community is a special word only to be had by like minded people for the betterment of mankind.
Storyletter Thoughts: What does the word community mean to you? Is there an advantage to being virtual?

I received my cups from the merch store and I love ‘em thanks 😊. These will make great gifts too.
