Why Join The Storyletter?
Free fiction every Saturday
We support indie writers by providing them with a platform to share their stories. What we do is we subscribe to new and popular writers here on Substack, then we share one of our favorite stories with our audience on Saturdays via the cross-post feature. That way readers get stories delivered to their inbox while simultaneously connecting writers with more readers.
The Storyletter also publishes exclusive, original fiction written by our XPress members. If this interests you, please continue reading to figure out how you can become an XPress member and get published.
Community posts on Wednesdays
This day is carved out just for our members and other like-minded creatives. We rotate between discussion threads, showcases (reviews), interviews, meet-n-greets, and much more.
Monthly newsletters
We send out a free newsletter once a month that includes everything happening at The Storyletter, as well as within the broader “indieverse”. Each newsletter features another Substack, highlighting their work and talents. We also include tips, prompts, free ad space for other creatives, along with upcoming announcements.
In addition to the free newsletter is our paid newsletter that features a more in-depth look at the industry and how to navigate it. These topics are in no particular order and is indicative of our journey as a new publisher.
Podcast (Beta)
Storyletter Read Aloud (SRA) is the audio version of our newsletter. It’s still in the developing phases, therefore, much of it is behind the paywall until we improve the quality enough to proudly present it as a free service. There are free episodes that appear featuring stories that are in the public domain.
Writing events
Once a year we host the S6 Contest (Storyletter Substack Summer Short Story Sweepstakes). This contest boasts cash prizes for the winners and publication opportunities for the best stories in the contest.
We also host quarterly writing prompts where other Substack authors can write stories for their own Substacks and we can cross-post them to our audience, or they can submit them for the possibility of paid publication as a Storyletter Original.
Get published
As we mentioned earlier, you can get your work published on The Storyletter. Submitting is easy as long as the requirements are met. We aim to streamline the process so writers will come to enjoy publishing with The Storyletter long into the future. As an XPress member of the community, you will get access to the following:
Option to submit to The Storyletter for paid publication and consideration for our anthology. Our current payment model is 1 cent per word. Flat rate of $10 for entries under 1,000 words, with a maximum word count of 6,000.
An invite to our Discord. With access to our private Discord, network with the community to get even closer to your favorite writers and readers.
Entry into writing contests for the chance to win cash, get published, and earn recognition.
Access to the SRA (Storyletter Read Aloud) episodes far sooner than free subscribers.
