A Very Storyletter Saturday With Free Books!
Updates, stories, and a mega Sci-Fi + Fantasy giveaway
It’s Saturday! You know what that means? It’s fiction time here at SXP. I’ve been slacking on my delivery lately with all of the other projects going on, but that’s no excuse. You came here for fiction, and that’s what I intend to provide.
This month, I’ve joined a promotion that includes 137 free science fiction and fantasy books. I’m downloading Resthaven by Colin Darney and A Mirage in the Memory by Simon Tull. I’d love to hear what books piqued your interest from the catalog. Happy reading!
Anthology Update
If this is the first you’re hearing of the Storyletter anthology, I’m assembling a collection of short stories that feature travel in one form or another. Mostly speculative, this anthology aims to take you to places you least expect. 20 indie authors will be published in this book, which will be developed into hardcover, paperback, and ebook.
I’m still reading through the current submissions. I'll reach out soon if you haven’t heard from me yet. The deadline for submitting your story is February 15th.
So, if you have a story that fits the criteria or are willing to write an original story just for the anthology, consider submitting it here:
Latest Releases
When SXP started—back when it was called The Storyletter—I envisioned delivering short stories to readers every Saturday. I quickly learned that I needed a lot more stories. To address that need, I’ve opened the submission portal to all subscribers with the added benefits of payment and edits (if applicable). That includes fiction and non-fiction.
If you have a story or essay you’d like to submit for consideration, please click the button below and follow the submission guidelines. I look forward to reading your work!

Concluding the “To Build a Book” series
January saw the end of the five-part series on the basics of publishing a book. I’ve edited and revised these articles and formatted them into a 9k word ebook for paid subscribers. Newly upgraded subscribers will receive the link to download the book in their Welcome email. If you’re paid and haven’t received the link, let me know in the comments, and I’ll send it your way.

I highly recommend checking out The Library’s showcase interview of Ben Woestenburg’s “No Simple Remedy.” J.M. Elliott and I are hard at work updating the stacks so that your books are more accessible than ever, as well as testing out new ways to promote your work. Thanks for the ongoing support!
Separately, SXP interviews are temporarily paused while I partner with another Substacker to improve this feature immensely. Until then, peruse our catalog of previous interviews and showcases!
Hey Winston! I have a short story that should fit the qualifications for submission, but it's already been published on Substack. Since you're looking for an exclusivity period, does that mean the story would have to be taken down until the end of 6 months if you decide to publish it, too? Thanks!
